70 years after the fall of italian fascism, the mystery surrounding Mussolini's last moments has not faded : who killed him, why, and in what circumstances ? We still cannot answer these questions with certainty.
Yet, the only certitude we have is that Mussolini died three times.
First politically, when he dies at the time the Allies landed in the summer of 1943.
Then symbolically, when his corpse was lynched by a furious crowd, and hung by the feet on Piazza Loreto in Milan the 29th of April 1943, thus marking the end of 23 years of fascism.
On his physical death, many grey areas remain. The circumstances of his execution, after being caught by partisans on the shores of Lake Como, have yet to be discovered.
Emmanuelle Nobécourt gives us a real investigation, enriched with cinema archives and animated sequences reviving the parties at the very heart of those dramatic events.
