Ever since that dark day in his childhood in Spain when fascist bullets killed his parents and lodged in his skull, Enrico has been living in the noisy din of deafness and silence. Today, after fighting for fifty years, he takes well-earned early retirement. But just then one of the few people to accept him as he is, Laura, a student at the nearby high school, is murdered. He has to find Laura's killer to put an end to the irrepressible racket that rings inside his head.
