Walter Goldberg, a brilliant conductor in the Usa, comes back to Italy after 10 years in order to conduct the Opera house of his early days. During the first general rehearsal, the maestro collapses and leaves the stage. He seeks refuge in his hotel, saying he is sick and renounces his contract. The Opera manager will make him gradually confess the real reason behind this withdrawal.
